Penric's Demon

Penric's Demon, by Lois McMaster Bujold

PENRIC'S DEMON is fun! So far it lacks the theological weight of the other books in the Five Gods series, but that's a pretty high bar. I've been reading a lot of novellas lately because my brain is fried from fascism + pandemic + health issues + electioneering, and of the five or six I've read this fall, this is the lightest and most frivolous. Whether or not that's a good thing probably depends on what you're looking for. Right now it feels pretty alright to me. I'm not raving about it being a masterpiece or anything, but I'm definitely engaged enough to keep reading--I put book two on hold already.
