Organ Pipe: Life on the Edge

a black and white photograph of the Ajo mountains behind a large organ pipe cactus

This book was... fine. You know? It was fine. It suffered from my high hopes and expectations, really--I wanted a clear, poetic description of the desert that also enlightened me about ecosystem relationships and how different organism interact with and depend on each other. Perhaps it's not the book's fault that it is what it is, and not what I hope it would be.

A fair review: Although ORGAN PIPE was a little more basic than I was hoping, its poetic prose clearly displays a love affair with the desert. Like the cactus forest, the book is meditative and beautiful.
