Network Effect

a backlit humanoid figure crouches on one large space vehicle, looking at another large space vehicle passing overhead

I mean, it's Murderbot, it's Martha Wells. I was a Martha Wells fan before it was cool!

Slightly spoilery critique of Network Effect below, which you should not read, you should just go read the book:

I do wish that, for thematic reasons, the ending revelations here were less to do with aliens. Part of what makes the Murderbot series so great is its deeply insightful view into how capitalism objectifies people. Like, literally turns literal people into objects to be bought and sold, either directly or through contracts for their labor. So its important to me that the company be the source of the plot conflicts; the introduction of alien elements takes the focus off the part of the story that resonates with me the most. HOWEVER Network Effect is still a lot of fun and very touching and lovely and action-y and hashtag-relatable.

I hope they make a Murderbot TV show, and then make a spin-off show that's just The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon.
