This book is so damn fun. The author's note at the end reveals that it was written during the pandemic, and there's definitely something about it, like it could be harsher, grittier, more tense and dramatic--but that's just not what it is. Its soft, and funny, and gentle on the reader. The vibe is: I wish I was still reading this for the first time, right now.
It's got everything: lesbians, gays and bisexuals! An inheritance that includes a parrot! Powerful old women! Annoying British men! A cruise ship full of class disparity! Steamy sex scenes! Intrigue, the fate of the world, and an old-timey menagerie of imported animals who are deeply confused about their lot in life. A future comfort read for sure.
